Sunday Stash #21

After a few false starts (USPS tracking isn't the best is it?!) lots of parcels have started arriving from over the pond.

First up, a fat quarter bundle of Hoffman Batiks from Massdrop.

 This bundle is named Cockatiel and my hope is that it will blend nicely with the Kahuna layer cake I got from Missouri Star when I visited last year. 

I've never been able to find anymore of the Kahuna but the color way in Cockatiel seemed very similar - pale pinks and dove grays.

Next up, a layer cake of True Luck by Stepahnie Ryan for Moda and some charm packs of Tula Pink's Bumble for Free Spirit, both from Soutern Fabrics.

I first spotted True Luck at the Festival of Quilts and picked up a charm pack so this layer cake should go nicely with it. I love how Southern Fabrics broke the Bumble charm pack down into little colour way packets so it would fit in the envelope better!

Next, from Fat Quarter Shop this time, a fat quarter bundle of Hello Darling by Bonnie and Camille for Moda.

 I preordered this before I got the Frivol tin so now have quite a lot of Hello Darling! Still, it is gorgeous and it's not like it goes off is it?!

Finally, back to Southern Fabric for my fav purchase of this week, a fat quarter bundle of Fox and the Houndstooth by Andie Hanna for Robert Kaufman. 

I love the glasses and foxes choices in this bundle but even the bow ties are cute too! I'm thinking that this would be perfect for a Christmas present for my mum, maybe an apron or oven glove? So cute!

Sunday Stash #14

Sorry for the long delay between my latest posts but I've been fairly busy at the weekends which is when I usually write my posts. In addition and in all honesty, I've been fairly sick too. I'm hoping that the busyness stops soon but unfortunately the sickness is going to continue for the foreseeable future culminating in August where I'm going to be unable to work (and definitely unable to post) for the month. Ugh. To say I'm not looking forward to August would be an understatement!

I'll write more about the whys and wherefores when I'm feeling less depressed about the whole thing.

The past few weeks have also been marked by a significant lack of purchases! As I do most of my quilt shopping online, when I'm sick and can't use a computer that means no new fabric either. Boo!

In anticipation of my cathedral window class taught by Jo Avery at Simply Solids I bought a meter of Kona midnight.

I love midnight for being such a dark purple/blue that it's almost black but not quite. A very well named colour I think.

Through a cross between origami and sewing, I managed to use about half of the metre and some left over batik scraps from my Craftsy BOM 2014 kit to make this.

Ain't she pretty?! It's eventually going to be a cushion (pillow if you're in the USA) cover.

Sadly I only managed to finish half the project in the class so it's gone on my pile of  UFOs. I make no promises that it won't stay there for a while but maybe I can add it to the list of stuff to sew in August.

Meanwhile I have a commission quilt to finish, some presents to deliver and some ironing to be done so I'm off to be productive.

Sunday Stash #12

I'm a bit light on stash purchases this week - probably because I bought so much last week - but I did take delivery of a FQ each of Kona silver and mid grey from Sew Hot.

I can now add the remains of these pieces (minus a few 5" drunkards path pieces) to my ever-growing stash of Kona solids, including Caribbean, Leprechaun, Clover, Sprout, Pansy, Midnight, Mid Grey and...erm... Brown. I think they ran out of fancy names towards the end.

I had a few other quilt associated deliveries this week, all from Massdrop.

Firstly two cones of Aurifil, one in 2024 and one in 2021.

I have to confess that I normally can't tell the difference between these colours (I think they're called "white" and "natural white" respectively) but when they're in cone form I can. Probably because there's so much more thread to see!

I think the natural white (on the right) is a little more creamy then the white (more grey).

I have a cone holder for Naomi from when I FMQ using Isacord cones so I'll start getting in to the habit of threading the cone guides rather than the spool guides.

Finally my Curve Master foot turned up ironically just after I've finished piecing 70 drunkards path blocks. Such is life.

I tried using the pin-less method on a couple of blocks but they always came out misaligned- the "pie" piece always finished a 1/4" short of the "crust" piece. I think this was because (a) my feed dogs are very grabby and (b) my 1/4" foot is quite large so there's a big chunk of plastic between the needle and the front edge. This makes it very difficult to maneuver the two pieces so they alight just before the needle. I suspect a lack of practice also plays a part.

As a result I pinned all but two of my blocks. By the end I didn't need many pins (and didn't get any puckers at all!) but did still need three or four for comfort sake. It actually went a lot quicker then I thought it would.

So, once this project is out of the way I'll try using up my left over pieces by practicing, practicing, practicing!

Sunday Stash #11

I've had such a mad busy week this week that I haven't had a chance to do much sewing.

What I have managed to sew is a secret (although sneaky peak below and on Instagram as I'm terrible at keeping secrets!) and most of this week's stash purchases links to that project.

It's all done in solids (Kona of course) and half way through this week I realised I was missing some key fabrics. So Village Haberdashery, Sew Hot and Plush Addict to the rescue! Most of our major quilt shops are at Malvern for the quilt show at the moment so I wasn't expecting such a speedy response but the fabric turned up very quickly.

I'm still waiting in a FQ of mid grey and silver but other than that I'm now good to go.

Whilst perusing Plush Addict a 1m bolt end of this medium teal chevron fell into my basket. How did that happen?!

Finally, whilst having an emergency tidy up in the sewing room (nowhere left to store fabric) I stumbled across these fat eighth bundles I'd forgotten I got from Southern Fabric a while ago.

There are four bundles of Amy Butler fabric - Cameo and Lark I think - but they're not labelled so I'm not 100% sure.

There's also a fat eighth bundle of Avant Garden by MoMo for Moda and a bundle of High Street by Lily Ashbury, again for Moda.

The High Street is rather out of my comfort zone, having lots of yellows and oranges but it's such a bright happy collection that I had to.

I love fat eighths as I find FQ bundles really expensive and, unless you're doing a huge quilt, there's loads left over. Not that scraps are a waste!

Finally, the sneaky peek I promised. All together now - one fish, two fish, red fish...

Sunday Stash #3

Last week I made the best of  Fat Quarter Shop's 20% discount by stocking up on fabrics that were clogging up my wish list.

Firstly, a bundle of  Lori Holt's Farm Girl Vintage collection which is exclusively available at FQS and will be used in making her Farm Girl Vintage quilt later on this year.

Normally I'm not a fan of reproduction 30s fabrics - I'm simply not a floral fan but I'm trusting in Lori and FQS on this one! The quilt looks awesome so I'm sure the fabrics will work perfectly with it.

Secondly, I gorged on layer cakes. I've grabbed hold of  Sandy Gervais's Block Party and Jennifer Sampou's Black and White.

I also nabbed Sweet Water Company's Feed Co and Kate Spain's Paradiso.

I told you I gorged!

Finally I snuck a jelly roll of Heathers Bailey's Clementine in my basket.

I'm thinking coin quilt with beautiful sea foam sashing in between.
