Sunday Stash #25

Phew it's been a busy few weeks which haven't left much time for sewing or blogging. I have at least cut out and labelled the pieces for Lella Boutique's Social Butterfly but haven't got any farther than this.

My first stash purchase was an extra fat quarter of the navy floral pattern from Melly and Me's Flutterberry as I stupidly miscut the original fat quarter. My miscut meant I couldn't get the 4 4.5" x 6.5" pieces i needed, hence the extra fat quarter. Still the remainder goes in the stash!

Also delivered this week was a fat eighth bundle of Canyon by Kate Spain for Moda.

I haven't worked with fat eighths before but whenever I use a fat quarter bundle I always seem to have loads left over. Hopefully that won't happen with a fat eighth.

I also received a fat quarter bundle of Handcrafted 2 by Alison Glass from Massdrop.

I purchased two extra panels in black and white to go with and I'm not sure I could cut into them.

They may languish in my Alison Glass drawer for some time. Speaking of which, the drawer is now very full.

I'm  off to Vermont at the end of this week and Naomi the Janome is off for a service at the same time. Is that the sewing machine equivalent of a spa? If so, she deserves it!

Happy Sunday sewing!

Sunday Stash #21

After a few false starts (USPS tracking isn't the best is it?!) lots of parcels have started arriving from over the pond.

First up, a fat quarter bundle of Hoffman Batiks from Massdrop.

This bundle is named Cockatiel and my hope is that it will blend nicely with the Kahuna layer cake I got from Missouri Star when I visited last year.

I've never been able to find anymore of the Kahuna but the color way in Cockatiel seemed very similar - pale pinks and dove grays.

Next up, a layer cake of True Luck by Stepahnie Ryan for Moda and some charm packs of Tula Pink's Bumble for Free Spirit, both from Soutern Fabrics.

I first spotted True Luck at the Festival of Quilts and picked up a charm pack so this layer cake should go nicely with it. I love how Southern Fabrics broke the Bumble charm pack down into little colour way packets so it would fit in the envelope better!

Next, from Fat Quarter Shop this time, a fat quarter bundle of Hello Darling by Bonnie and Camille for Moda.

I preordered this before I got the Frivol tin so now have quite a lot of Hello Darling! Still, it is gorgeous and it's not like it goes off is it?!

Finally, back to Southern Fabric for my fav purchase of this week, a fat quarter bundle of Fox and the Houndstooth by Andie Hanna for Robert Kaufman.

I love the glasses and foxes choices in this bundle but even the bow ties are cute too! I'm thinking that this would be perfect for a Christmas present for my mum, maybe an apron or oven glove? So cute!

Happy Sunday sewing (and happy Labor Day weekend for all of you in the US)!

Sunday Stash #19

Not a huge amount to show you this week - not because I haven't ordered a lot but it all seems to stuck somewhere mid-Atlantic!

What has turned up is a fat quarter bundle of Handcrafted 2 by Alison Glass for Andover.

I love pretty much everything Alison Glass does so when this bundle appeared on Massdrop I just had to have it. And the bundle of Ex Libris that appeared shortly thereafter too. But that's a story for another show-and-tell!

Not all of these colours are in my comfort zone (neon yellow anyone?) but I'm sure they'll all play nicely together. Particularly with all these other fat quarters I have from Alison. Here's my drawer.

Some people love 30s reproductions, some people love Libertys of London. I confess here and now that I loathe Liberty and will send any and all Liberty that I might accidentally end up with to a certain American living down under (no that wasn't a euphemism) ;)

Alison Glass is my addiction. And maybe Kate Spain. And Jennifer Sampou.

Just in case you thought my collection was reasonable, there's the depth of that drawer.

Oops. Gonna need a bigger drawer soon.

Sunday Stash #12

I'm a bit light on stash purchases this week - probably because I bought so much last week - but I did take delivery of a FQ each of Kona silver and mid grey from Sew Hot.

I can now add the remains of these pieces (minus a few 5" drunkards path pieces) to my ever-growing stash of Kona solids, including Caribbean, Leprechaun, Clover, Sprout, Pansy, Midnight, Mid Grey and...erm... Brown. I think they ran out of fancy names towards the end.

I had a few other quilt associated deliveries this week, all from Massdrop.

Firstly two cones of Aurifil, one in 2024 and one in 2021.

I have to confess that I normally can't tell the difference between these colours (I think they're called "white" and "natural white" respectively) but when they're in cone form I can. Probably because there's so much more thread to see!

I think the natural white (on the right) is a little more creamy then the white (more grey).

I have a cone holder for Naomi from when I FMQ using Isacord cones so I'll start getting in to the habit of threading the cone guides rather than the spool guides.

Finally my Curve Master foot turned up ironically just after I've finished piecing 70 drunkards path blocks. Such is life.

I tried using the pin-less method on a couple of blocks but they always came out misaligned- the "pie" piece always finished a 1/4" short of the "crust" piece. I think this was because (a) my feed dogs are very grabby and (b) my 1/4" foot is quite large so there's a big chunk of plastic between the needle and the front edge. This makes it very difficult to maneuver the two pieces so they alight just before the needle. I suspect a lack of practice also plays a part.

As a result I pinned all but two of my blocks. By the end I didn't need many pins (and didn't get any puckers at all!) but did still need three or four for comfort sake. It actually went a lot quicker then I thought it would.

So, once this project is out of the way I'll try using up my left over pieces by practicing, practicing, practicing!

Happy Sunday (and Memorial Day and Bank Holiday!) sewing!

Sunday Stash #9

Having previous said I have either "feast" or "famine" weeks for fabric, this week is somewhat in between! It's all from Massdrop.

First up, a lovely fat quarter bundle of Vintage Sundaes by The Henley Studio for MakowerUK.

I love the faded powder blues, greys and parchment colouring and the gorgeous object d'art prints (butterflies, keys, clocks). It's ironic that this fabric came from the UK, went to the States and then back again and was still appears to be cheaper then it would have been to buy in the UK. Go figure.

Next up a design roll of Franklin by Denyse Schmidt for Free Spirit.

I'm normally not a big fan of busy prints (yellow and red plaid anyone?) but I've found that they work very well in small pieces surrounded by neutral solids. I guess everyone else already knew that right?!

Finally some notions, still from Massdrop. I bought a bundle of square up rulers mainly because of the flying geese rulers.

As an added bonus I bought three rolls of Invisigrip grippy stuff to go on the back of my rulers.

Three rolls might seem a lot (it is) but I suddenly seem to have loads of rulers. I think they're secretly multiplying whilst I'm not in the room! This Omnigrip tape will provide extra friction between the ruler and the fabric, making the ruler much less likely to slip and either miscut the fabric or cut me!

Have a great sewing Sunday (and a fab Bank Holiday if you're in Great Britain)!

Sunday Stash #7

I seem to have feast or famine weeks when it comes to purchasing fabric and this week was definitely a feast week. As my storage waistline shows - it's bursting at the seams!

First up a FQ bundle of Safari Moon by Frances Newcombe for Art Gallery Fabrics.

I love the quizzical zebras on the indigo fabric but must confess my favourite print is the swallow/peacock flying. Gotta love Art Gallery Fabrics.

Along with the Safari Moon bundle, I also bought some Aurifloss in black and brown and some batting (not pictured as it's far too boring!) all from Sew Hot

I also bought some FQs of Kona solids from Quiltessential. They're not too far away from me so I just visit some time soon!

The solids and Aurifloss are for a secret future project! Can't say more as the intended recipient reads this blog!

Then I had a delivery from Missouri Star Quilt Co which included a design roll and yardage of Denyse Schmidt's Chicopee line for FreeSpirit Fabrics. No prizes for guessing this quilt!

Also in the bundle was a pack of 5" squares and design roll of Alison Glass's Sunprint for Andover Fabric.

I also then ended up getting a FQ bundle from Massdrop as well but you can never have too much fabric right?! If you haven't checked out Massdrop yet, it's definitely worth a look. Although the Sunprint drop has now finished, they currently have a FQ bundle Handcrafted on there, with an option for 1/2 yard bundle.

Finally I also got my sticky mitts on the Moccasin BOM project put together by GenX Quilters. I love the western colour palate and modern design. I'm not sure whether I'm Generation X or not - I think I might just sneak in there - but I'm hoping GenX quilters will forgive me if I'm accidentally misrepresenting myself!

Happy Sunday sewing!
